Brain plasticity – Groks Science Show 2013-10-16

Published October 13, 2013

Our prior belief of the brain as a static and unchanging organ is being replaced by a new understanding of the versatility of the brain throughout life. Brain plasticity, which involves changes occurring in our brain that allow us to learn and function in response to new experiences, happens not only early in life but also in adulthood, as well as in response to traumatic brain injury. Dr. Michael Merzenich, professor emeritus of neuroscience at the University of California, San Francisco, joins us to discuss the biology of brain plasticity and how we can take action to improve our brain functioning.
